Events at Raizcorp

At the end of April, Raizcorp Kramervile hosted two exciting events. A Construction Charter Breakfast was held at which Dionne Kerr, CEO of Siyakha Consulting, provided attendees with more insight into what the advent of the new Construction Charter means for them. She provided all the necessary information which they would need in order to approach this Charter in the best possible way, allowing them to plan their business strategies while dealing with the Charter's requirements. Included in this was a 20 minute presentation by Gavin Friedman on Enterprise Development.

April’s Viewpoint was held as a breakfast at which Thango Ngxola, Procurement Manager for Nedbank, took attendees through Nedbank's procurement process, with the aim of assisting all Raizcorp companies to become part of Nedbank's supply chain. This was very well attended and very well received. There were close to 40 attendees and the majority of them have actually gone on to make one-on-one appointments with Nedbank. This Viewpoint gave us a good indication that we are heading in the right direction with the kinds of topics which we would like to have for future Viewpoints. Bronwyn Echardt has taken over the organizing of Viewpoints and has many exciting things planned. Watch this space!

The Month of May

After the intense White Season, May was a relatively quiet month with guiding and learning continuing apace at all prosperators. We are almost at the end of the second quarter and, so far, the feedback on the learning has been generally positive. Mid-quarter evaluations, at Kramerville, have highlighted gaps and, where possible, the Learning Department will endeavour to address these in an effort to continuously improve the Raizcorp offering.

Congratulations to CED beneficiary Anthea Ambursley

We would like to congratulate Anthea, owner of Anansi Heights, on winning the Emerging Entrepreneur category of the BWA Regional Business Achiever Awards.  This really is a great achievement.  When asked about how she felt about winning the award, Anthea said that she was shocked and ecstatic. 

Anthea has just started her first year with Raizcorp.

More congratulations goes out to one of Raizcorp's 2nd year beneficiaries, Tabisa Khoapa of Tabisa Training & Management Services.  Tabisa was a finalist in the competition.  A fanatstic achievement as well.  We wish both ladies much success in the future.

Richards Bay Update

Sadly, John Roussout, the Richards Bay Prosperator Manager has resigned to concentrate full-time on his restaurant businesses. John opened and has grown Raizcorp’s first non Gauteng-based Prosperator and we wish him every success with his future. We will miss you, John! Marius Wilken has been appointed Prosperator Manager and we wish him luck. He will no doubt tackle the challenges with his usual passion and energy.

Preparing For The Trip

I have been working at Raizcorp, since January 2010, and, even though it has only been a few months, I feel like I have been here for many years.  I belong.  The Raizcorp leg of my life’s path has been quite a journey, and the pace is beginning to seriously pick up – very exciting!  I believe that my appointment, as Strategy Guide, was the culmination of various experiences leading up to the dawn of this new season.

The winding road, leading up to this point, and particularly, in the past few years, has continuously challenged my expectations.  Just when I thought that I would make a left, the road turned right and, when I was preparing to pick up speed, there were many obstacles that required me to slow down and be patient. Like the many entrepreneurs I have met this year, my journey has been a challenging and rewarding one. We are all navigating the path everyday and working hard not to lose our way.

What I have found is that the busyness of everyday competes with my drive to truly assist each and every one of my clients on their unique entrepreneurial journey.  On the other hand, I have also found that entrepreneurs have very little time to reflect on their journey because they are equally engaged in their day-to-day activities. 

Along the way, I have learned to prepare rather than plan.  Although I still do plan, preparation has become my vehicle of choice.  I see it is part of my maturity process.  Here are a few points that I believe are important in the twist and turns of a winding path:

1. Roll down the windows:  Let the fresh air of the moment into your life.  Learn to identify the new things and become excited by them.
2. Practice cornering:  The more you learn to enjoy corners, the more you learn to enjoy life.  Life is mostly one set of corners after the other.
3. Know your power and gears:  If you know when, and how quickly, to increase speed, you will make the ride the best it can be.  Don't over estimate your horse power and don't underestimate it either - use what you've got!
4. Discs all round:  Make sure you have some really good breaks on your car because stopping, at viewpoints, is as important as picking up the pace.  Learn to enjoy the pauses in life; this is where you gain greater vision for the road ahead.
5. Let it rip:  When the road is straight, the air crisp and the light as bright as it can be, floor it.  Don't think, just enjoy it! 

As John Lennon famously said, “Life is what happens to you while you're busy making other plans.” The awareness of the different parts of the journey, that flow together to unite us, is what gives us the opportunity to create our destiny. Make it a good one!
